In 1981, a 26 vehicle pileup happened on the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge and three people were killed. It was blamed on an expansion joint that popped up and punctured a truck's fuel tank and leaked diesel on one side of the bridge, turning it into a slippery slope. Tuesday a driver noticed what turned out to be a finger of an expansion joint sticking up. She reported it to police, maybe saving lives.
