Teresa Cortez’ poster board and the sentiments inscribed upon it captured a win for the Trigg County Intermediate School fifth-grader in Arbor Day contests sponsored by the Cadiz Main Street Program and Trigg County Public Schools.
“With trees, we have beauty,” the 10-year-old wrote upon her decorated poster. “Without them, we have disease.”
The young girl said Arbor Day to her means clean air and water, and it is trees, which people are encouraged to plant each April on Arbor Day, that help keep air and water clean.
In honor of the role trees play in the environment, Cadiz Mayor Todd King on Friday declared the day as Arbor Day with the reading of a proclamation during a celebration at the Cadiz Water Treatment Plant. ....
