(WBTV) - The City of Kannapolis welcomes a new Director of Finance, Africa Otis. Africa most recently served as the Finance Director for the City of Mount Holly for 11 years. With twenty years of experience in the field of finance, she has also served as the Finance Director for the Town of Cramerton; working as a Operations Budget Analyst for the City of Charlotte CATS System; a fiscal analyst for Mecklenburg County, and a budget analyst for Gaston County Schools. ....
Kannapolis City Schools returned to class in Plan B on Tuesday Kannapolis City Schools students return for in-person learning By David Whisenant | February 16, 2021 at 10:51 AM EST - Updated February 16 at 5:39 PM KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (WBTV) - Kannapolis City Schools welcomed students back to in person learning today for the first time in several weeks. The district was in Plan C, fully remote learning, due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties. Superintendent Dr. Chip Buckwell said he was confident that today was the right day to return to in-person learning. “I’m very confident,” Buckwell said. “We had protocols in place when the school year started back in August and we’ve got the same protocols in place. We’ve practiced those for the last 6-7 months and I think we’re in a good spot to come back and our numbers in the county, both Cabarrus and Rowan, are coming down, so I feel like we’re in a good spot.” ....

He has been selected as Police Officer of the Year by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8989. Officer Crowe was selected for his attitude of selfless service to others while always striving for excellence. Officer Crowe is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He joined the Kannapolis Police Department in 2019 and he studied criminal justice at Rowan Cabarrus Community College. ....
Kannapolis Fire Department receives state specialized training certifications The department earned this recognition for meeting the highest standards in five specific rescue and emergency medical categories: Heavy Rescue (large vehicles such as buses/tractor trailers), Confined Space Rescue (tunnels/manholes), High Angle Rescue (multistory buildings/scaffolding), Agriculture Rescue and as an Ambulance Provider.
