Spartanburg County s seven school districts are reporting approximately 1,100 new cases of COVID-19 since Oct. 12, according to information obtained by the Herald-Journal. The 1,100 cases are more than triple the estimated 350 cases reported during October for the first nine weeks. The increase in cases is being reported at the same time as the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported on Tuesday that there were 210 new confirmed COVID -19 cases in Spartanburg County. Since the start of the pandemic, the county has had a total of 14,668 cases and 301 deaths. To help school districts bring students back into the classroom full time and in a safe manner in January, the S.C. Department of Education announced Monday its plans to provide additional funding to all public school districts to support the reopening efforts.
