In Lebanon, where nearly half of the population now needs assistance securing daily meals, cooperatives, associations, farmers and research centers have reimagined new ways of farming to preserve biodiversity, boost climate resilience and provide nourishment. “Here we produce, reproduce and preserve local seeds,” said Serge Harfouche, co-founder of the Buzuruna Juzuruna cooperative, referring to the Bilad al-Sham, a territory that crosses Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Iraq.
