Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers yesterday announced the reopening of some recreational facilities at Corps-operated sites, including several in the area.
The Corps says some of the sites have already reopened while others will reopen later in the summer recreational season.
Among those reopening in our area are:
Loyalhanna Lake (pictured), located outside of Saltsburg in Loyalhanna Township, Westmoreland County. The Bush Recreation Area reopened May 7
th with a new playground. The Corps says new electrical pedestals will be added soon.

2 PITTSBURGH – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is announcing the reopening of select facilities at district-managed sites in anticipation of the 2021 recreation season.
“We invite the public to come out and safely enjoy our beautiful reservoirs and parks. Our rangers and resource managers across the district have done a tremendous job preparing campgrounds and recreational sites for this year’s season!” said Col. Andrew Short, commander, Pittsburgh District.
All campground reservations can now be made online through the Recreation.gov website.
Some recreation sites have already partially or fully reopened, while others will reopen later in the summer season.
