BCSD Summer Food Programs

Burlington, IA- The Burlington Community School District will provide free meals to those under the age of 18 on a first come first serve basis via the Summer Food Assistance Program in June and July. According to an online post, the program coincides with the district's summer school programs and is not limited to Burlington students. "If Grandma has little Johnny and little Mary visiting from North Carolina, they can come eat for free," BCSD District Services Director Brian Johnson said. "If you see some place have (the Summer Food Service Program), you can pull in and your kids can eat for free. I wouldn't plan your trip around it. I'm just saying you don't have to be a Burlington resident, you don't have to go to school here." Meals will be provided to all children without charge, and are the same for all. Richard "Dick" Wright, 88, of Burlington, died Friday, May 19, 2023, at Addington Place in Burlington. Just a week after celebrating his 88th birthday. Born May 12, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of Lucille Kampschneider and Beauford Wright. He worked as a bank teller while attending SCC and remained employed at First National Bank (now US Bank) his entire career. He eventually earned his banking degree from the University of Wisconsin and gained a reputation as a stickler for accuracy. Dick loved a good joke and made us laugh (or groan) often. He also loved sports and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. He gained attention as a baseball and basketball player while attending Burlington's catholic schools and continued to earn accolades as a star basketball player when he attended SCC. He remained involved in sports until he began to lose his vision in his 70's. As a young adult he officiated baseball, basketball and football. Dick believed i

Burlington Community Walk to Fight Suicide

Burlington, IA- Burlington High Schools Bring Change to Mind Club has announced its second annual Community Walk to Fight Suicide. This event will take place on Friday, April 28th from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The route for the walk begins at Bracewell Stadium then proceed to Sith Street, then Jefferson Street, then Front Street, ending at the Port of Burlington. The goal of the event is to support mental health in the community, expand knowledge and resources, and end the stigma surrounding mental health. BCSD selects Assistant Director of Curriculum

Burlington, IA- The Burlington Community School District has announced a new Director of Curriculum. Stephanie Vititoe has been selected as the Assistant Director of Curriculum for the Burlington Community School District. She will officially begin her new role on July 1, 2023. Ms. Vititoe currently serves as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Keokuk Community School District. She has 10 years of school leadership experience, including serving as Curriculum Director, Assistant Principal, Principal, and as a regional Mentoring and Induction Coach. Prior to that, she taught high school business courses and Talented and Gifted programs. Ms. Vititoe holds a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Buena Vista University and completed the School Administration Licensure program through Viterbo University's Iowa Center.
