Amtrak getting back on track to New York City

After being shut down for over a year, the upgraded Ethan Allen Express is poised to come back in 2022 with its services expanding to Burlington.
Vermont Amtrak services were forced to close in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Vermont Transportation Agency decided to use this time to finish improvements to the passenger rail â the Ethan Allen Express train â that travels between Rutland and New York City. The project is expected to be finished in the winter or spring of 2022.
There are also early talks to have a stop in Shelburne.
Service will expand to Burlington and have additional stops in Vergennes and Middlebury, said Christopher Parker, the Executive Director of the Vermont Rail Action Network and a Railroad Consultant. Union Station in Burlington has not been in use since 1953. ....

Saratoga Chamber and state legislators call for faster reopening of Amtrak

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.Â â The Saratoga Chamber and members of the state Legislature hosted a press conference Friday morning announcing their intent to press the New York and Vermont Departments of Transportation for an earlier reopening of the Amtrak train station.
Present at the conference were representatives of the New York Racing Association, Rivers Casino, and the Empire State Passenger Association (ESPA). The gathering was the first time the train station had been opened in over a year.
We re really excited to start talking about how to reopen the economy, said Chamber president Todd Shimkus.

Amtrak has announced that passenger train service will restart on July 19, with the Ethan Allen Express line resuming its daily service.
