CSPAN2 After Words January 5, 2014

This constitutional question. Okay i will give you one example. So lets think about the 14th amendment. Part of the 14th amendment is citizenship so we asked the question upon whether or not they believe the birthright citizenship in the 14th amendment should be repealed . We didnt prompt him on immigration or anything like that. We just asked straight up question. Thats part of the constitution, right . Well if it was really just about conservatism, we have a variable in there for which we control that gets that constitutional conservatism. The basic whether or not how liberal conservative you are. So if you guys are correct that in this particular case and this is just an example, if its really just all about the constitution concerns about the constitution than people that support the tea party since we are about constitutional preservation should not want to repeal the 14th amendment. Thats part of the constitution. Is that correct . Is that correct . Well guess what . Control for ....

This is something that is tactical. The filibuster is tactical. Is that an example, kind of an example of direct democracy . Wouldnt be a good example because it precludes the debate and discussion. Thats the whole purpose of the filibuster. Its deeply anticonstitutional. Deeply, deeply. Not in the literal sense, but in the structural sense of the spirit of the constitution. When i was in school, they were begin to us to reed in american literature, and now largely gone. Why do you think that is . First of all, they read theory, not american literature, i mean, academia as we kne ....

CSPAN Q A January 3, 2014

This week on q a, yuval levin. Yuval levin, your wikipedia site has in the second sentence, he has been called, quote, probably the most influential conservative intellectual of the obama era. Whats that mean . Thats a very good question. I wonder by whom. I think its jonathan chait. Ok. Well then probably, in the course of criticizing me for something or other, but i guess what it means you know an intellectual in politics is a person who tries to connect events and practical questions to deeper currents, theoretical or philosophical currents. There are narrower definitions. You know paul johnson, the Great British historian, wrote a book called intellectuals in the 80s in which he said that an intellectual in politics is actually a person who tries to remake the world in the image of some theory he has. In that sense, there probably is no such thing as a conservative intellectual, but i think if you take a broader view of it and ....
