Police probing broadcast reporter over comment on RM50,000 compound, confirms Astro Awani


PETALING JAYA: Broadcaster Astro Awani says it will give full cooperation in the police probe against one of its newscasters for allegedly making slanderous remarks over two compounds amounting to RM50,000 each issued in Kelantan recently.
Astro Awani editor-in-chief Ashwad Ismail confirmed that the investigation was about remarks aired on Awani 745, its primetime news programme.

He said the decision was reached after discussions between the police and the Kelantan health department Wednesday (April 28).
He said Kelantan police will take action according to the guidelines on compound discounts set under Act 342, or the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
He said the state health department had the power to offer a reduced rate for the compounds as outlined in the guidelines.
Referring to the compounds dated April 26,2021, which were issued to a burger seller, a ‘colek’ seller and a sundry shop owner, the health department has informed all the premises owners that the amount of the compound would be reconsidered as per the guidelines, ” he said. ....

PUTRAJAYA: The burger seller in Kelantan who was slapped with a RM50,000 compound has been asked to take up his case with the Health Ministry.
The advice came from Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, who said the ministry would consider giving a discount or even an exemption.
“We take this case seriously, as it has received a lot of public attention. We view this as a special case that needs to be addressed immediately, ” he said in a statement yesterday.
Wan Mohd Faisal Wan Kadir was issued a RM50,000 compound last Sunday for operating his burger stall in Kampung Rambutan Rendang near Kota Baru beyond 10pm, which is not permissible in states placed under the movement control order. ....

MCO violations: Burger seller in Kelantan slapped with RM50,000 compound


KOTA BARU (Bernama): A burger seller at Kampung Rambutan Rendang near here was issued with a RM50,000 compound for violating the movement control order (MCO), including operating beyond 10pm.
Kota Baru district police chief ACP Abdul Rahim Daud said the man also violated the standard operating procedures (SOP) by setting up tables for customers and failing to provide a body temperature scanner on Sunday (April 25).
Due to the offences, we issued the maximum compound of RM50,000. However, he can appeal to the Health Ministry for a reduction, he said when contacted here Monday (April 26).
Earlier, the burger seller, in a social media post which has gone viral, claimed that he was slapped with the maximum penalty of RM50,000 for operating the burger stall in front of his house at around 11pm. ....
