'Dreaming': MPs respond to councillor's hospital claims

Bundaberg and Burnett MPs have responded to comments from a Fraser Coast councillor who says plans for a new Bundaberg Hospital should be put on ice while the Fraser Coast gets its own healthcare needs addressed.
Fraser Coast councillor David Lee said the Fraser Coast was better suited for a Level 5 hospital because of its projected population growth.
Bundaberg MP Tom Smith said Cr Lee was dreaming , saying the ill-informed local government politician was simply trying to make a name for himself on the Fraser Coast .
The people of Bundaberg are a hardworking and close-knit community that deserve a new hospital, Mr Smith said. ....

Arterial road to receive much needed upgrades from next week

A $3.5 million upgrade to one of Bundaberg’s busiest stretches of road will begin next week.
New asphalt, turning lanes and the widening of road shoulders are on the cards along Princess St and Bargara Rd with works expected to be complete by April.
The works come as part of the state government’s $50 billion infrastructure guarantee for Queensland.
Plans for the Princess St and Bargara Rd upgrades which will begin on Monday.
Transport and Main Roads identified more than 15,000 vehicles use the Princess St and Bargara Rd stretch every day.
Bundaberg MP Tom Smith said crews will work “day and night” to get the job done. ....

Mayor makes fresh call to Feds to commit to levee

Bundaberg Mayor Jack Dempsey has joined the state government in calling on the commonwealth to commit to the Bundaberg East Flood Levee.
It comes as the business case for the levee has been completed and presented to the state government.
However, Hinkler MP Keith Pitt says the Deputy Prime Minister s department had not yet received the report.
Cr Dempsey said council was grateful the funds had been committed by the state government, but it was time for the feds to get on board by matching what was on the table.
