Photo: Panagiotis Pantazidis/Amazon If there’s one thing the characters of Amazon’s hit The Boys know, it’s murder. Well, murder, corruption, venality, nihilism, losing sight of everything good in a single-minded drive to purge the world of what you see as your enemies… there’s arguably a few candidates vying for the top spot of “what they know.” But the people playing those characters are considerably less psyched about the behavior of their onscreen counterparts and that might go doubly for Jack Quaid, who not only plays oft-befuddled protagonist Hughie, but who also finds himself in the position of still apologizing for a cinematic murder he committed long before he ever slipped into the skin of his Billy Joel-loving alter ego. ....
Image: Acer Acer given most of its laptop lineup a major refresh at CES 2021 and there seems to be something for every budget, from entry-level machines like the Acer Aspire 5 that cost just $550, to the high-end Predator Triton 300 SE, which costs a surprisingly reasonable $1,400. It also appears to have been totally re-imagined for gamers who want the high-end specs without the ostentatious flash. Advertisement Not only has Acer ditched the black and neon-blue trim for a basic, silver-ish finish, but its also shrunk down the Predator logo and moved it to the top corner of the laptop lid. The result is a professional-looking laptop that would blend seamlessly into any work meeting, coffee shop, or where ever people are present (eventually). Aesthetic-wise, this is one of my favorites laptops from CES so far this week. ....

Advertisement For people who have been largely stuck at home for the better part of the year and are yearning for some more engaging entertainment, Razer’s Project Brooklyn is basically an attempt to transform a typical gaming chair into a full-on futuristic battle station. However, the big caveat with Project Brooklyn is that while Razer says the concept was inspired by current products like the Razer Iskur and includes components that are technically available (though only in very early stages of development), at least for now, Project Brooklyn only really exists in renders and the imaginations of Razer’s designers. ....
12 New Studies Show How Close Insects Are to Extinction Photo: Gabriel Bouys (Getty Images) I do not like bugs. Creepy, many-legged things make my skin crawl. But as unpleasant as they are, insects are absolutely crucial for our world’s ecosystems to function, and sadly, new research shows that the creatures populations are on the verge of collapse. Advertisement That’s the theme of the latest issue of the Proceedings of the Natural Academy of Sciences, called the Global Decline of Insects in the Anthropocene Special Feature, which includes 12 papers conducted by 56 authors detailing insects’ rapid decline. One reason for this decline is habitat degradation. As one of the studies shows, land use changes for agriculture are a major cause. “The industrialization of agriculture during the second half of the 20th century involved farming on greatly expanded scales, monoculturing, the application of increasing amounts of pesticides and fertilizers, and th ....
