From malibu to chico where the wild fires not only destroyed homes, but are also weeking havoc with the educational system. after burning one elementary school to the ground and damaging others tim taylor is the buke county superintendent. over the weekend i had somebody message me on instagram saying the schools need some attention out there because you re trying to figure out a way to get these children back in school, get the teachers back in the classrooms. you need portable classrooms. there s a lot of things you need. tell us about your experience. i think the first and foremost thing, we have a target gate of december 3rd to get all kids back into a school setting. longer term, we re going to have to look at interim portable campus. but we ve got to get these kids back in school. we re working very hard to do that, to get our mental health counselors and teachers to do that. just to give you a quick snap shot, there s 32,000 kidses in this county that go to school. ....
Decimated buke county. some of the victims had to set up this makeshift evacuation camp. kaylee what are you seaing, what are you hearing there? well this walt mart is about ten miles down the hill. this is where the people of paradise shop if is a lace they re familiar with and comfortable and a place that people felt safe. in the chaos of evacuations many people ended up here, stranded with nowhere else to go. it was always supposed to be nothing more than a temporary solution and people now recognizing it is time to figure out what is next. the smoke from the fire lingers and people on the ground ....
