Christian Tumi, the first and only cardinal of Cameroon, has died


A priest for nearly 55 years and a cardinal since 1988, he died on Holy Saturday.
Tumi served as Archbishop of Douala from 1991-2009, but it was not until several years after he had retired that he became a leading figure in efforts to resolve the Anglophone Crisis that has disrupted the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon.
I have the deep sorrow of announcing the return to Eternity of His Eminence Christian Cardinal Tumi, said Archbishop Samuel Kledahe of Douala, in announcing his predecessor s death.
Through the mercy of God may his soul rest in peace, the archbishop said on Facebook. ....
