The rainy days during the early spring brought to my mind of the thought that it is mudbug season(crawdads) in North Mississippi from March to May as the bottom lands surrounding Hurricane begin to teem with the âcrittersâ(my personal definition). It has become somewhat of an âin thingâfor the younger generation to host a food fest or a neighborhood boil featuring the Southern delicacy. After they are caught, a brand of shrimp boil is used to enhance the flavor of the local fare as they are cooked. The laid back presentation has newspapers to serve the mudbugs on after they are boiled; so a picnic is just waiting to happen locally without any fanfare. Iâm not real keen on odoriferous foods; so it will be with the open mindset that I take at any wild game supper or reunion if I eat crawdads. There are usually saltines and sweet tea on the menu; so I just load my paper plate and Dixie cup with these and pretend that Iâm partaking of the wildebeest or al ....
Itâs time for that annual spring fling in Hurricane(a cleaning day)as the community center has been closed for a year due to the pandemic, and the committee has designated Monday, April 12, as the day for volunteers to meet at 9:00 a.m. to work inside and also outside on the lawn. The center will begin rentals again on May 1, 2021 as you know rentals are the primary way that the community center has funds for the upkeep of the property. Donations are always welcomed if you care to contribute to the general fund. You may call 662-550-0340 to request a spot on the rental calendar or to leave a donation.
