I’m from a mixed farm in Bandon, Co Cork. We’re in dairy, beef, tillage and we’ve forestry as well.
It’s very diverse. I’m 16 and in transition year in St Brogan’s College, Bandon.
I was interested in debating and Model United Nations (UN) before I was interested in climate action and the environment.
When that came up as a topic in debates, it was something I began to research more and more.
That’s how I started getting into sustainability.
I was one of 157 youth delegates to take part in the RTÉ Youth Assembly on Climate in Dáil Éireann in 2019. ....

Cork student wins ABP Farm Safety category at BT Young Scientist Exhibition
Cathal O’Sullivan from Co. Cork was the overall winner of the ABP Farm Safety category at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) this year.
The student of Beara Community School in Castletown-Bearhaven won with his project titled ‘Preventing machine accidents with warning systems’

O’Sullivan impressed the judges at the virtual exhibition last week with his “innovative and forward-thinking project” that is designed to prevent accidental injuries and deaths from farm machinery.
He designed a device that alerts users when they are too close in proximity to spinning machine parts, preventing them from accidentally coming into contact with them. ....

Laois students were recognised and commended at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2021 Awards Ceremony and for one of them, it marked the second year in a row he has savoured success.
A total of three awards were presented to Laois students for their impressive projects entered in this year’s virtual exhibition.
In the Social and Behavioural Senior Individual section second place went to Heywood Community School student Evan Hogg. His project was called: The regulations at play behind your physical activity: A statistical analysis into how we can use SDT to better motivate the nation to participate in physical activity . Evan also own in 2020. ....

THE WINNERS OF this year’s BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition have been announced.
Gregory Tarr, aged 17, a sixth year student from Bandon Grammar School in Co Cork has won the top prize for his project entitled “Towards detecting state-of-the-art deepfakes”.
Deepfakes are videos or images in which a person’s face or body has been digitally altered so that they appear to be someone else. They are often used to spread false information. ....
