James Henderson has worked at Metcalfe Elementary School for 14 years now as a janitor. He said this last year during the pandemic has been a challenge as he’s worked extra hard to clean the school to make sure the students and staff are kept safe from the virus.
Though, that hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Second grade student, Immanuel Howard, painted a portrait of Henderson calling him a superhero for his dedication.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCJB) -Three North Central Florida students won categories in the annual Florida Black History Month competitions sponsored by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.
Florida First Lady Casey Desantis announced Belleview High School student Valeria Alfonzo Molina won the high school section of the annual Black History Month essay competition. She wrote about James Weldon Johnson a Florida-born educator, poet, novelist, journalist, anthologist, diplomat, lyricist, lawyer, and civil rights activist.
In the elementary section of the essay contest, High Springs Community School 4th-grader Brynley Ashraf won. She wrote her essay about the school’s resource officer, Officer Adam Joy. In her essay titled “The ‘Joy’ of Our Community”, she explained the ways he se ....

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — First Lady Casey DeSantis announced this year’s Black History Month student and teacher contest winners and Excellence in Education Award recipients on Monday.
This year’s contest theme was “Community Champions – Celebrating the Contributions of African Americans in Florida’s Communities,” sponsored by the Florida Lottery and other partners.
