NEW YORK - Up-and-coming actors will sometimes claim to know a variety of skills to be considered for roles, but Olivia Liang set a boundary early in her career.
“When I started off in the industry, people would ask me why martial arts wasn’t on my resume because it was such a typecast for Asians to do martial arts roles, said Liang. So I made a promise to myself. I was like, ‘I’ll never learn martial arts until someone pays me to learn martial arts. ....

New Kung-Fu team hopes show 'part of the narrative with cultural acceptance'


The cast and executive producer/creator of The CW s reboot of
Kung Fu virtually spoke with reporters today from their set in Vancouver to promote the upcoming series launch on April 7 at 8pm EST. While the entire team was proud and excited to share insight into their series, which focuses on experiences of Nicky Shen s (Olivia Liang) San Francisco-based, Chinese-American family, they started the panel addressing the devastating Tuesday shootings of Asian women in Atlanta and the ongoing Asian community assaults and fomented racist sentiment regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. 
Playing the patriarch of the series Jin Shen, veteran actor Tzi Ma said the recent event has broken his heart. I’m not quite sure what the short term fix is, he said about the current tide of Asian racism. But he said part of finding a long-term solution are projects like this show, which features an Asian-American showrunner and a majority cast of Asian actors. We are long term solution ....
