The Simpsons first aired in December 1989 and, by the end of its first season was one of the hottest shows on TV.
In the summer of 1990 rumours began circulating that King Of Pop Michael Jackson would write a song for Bart on a forthcoming Simpsons offshoot album.
In fact, Jackson - a superfan of the animated show - was already on board, having called the producers one night offering to write Bart a number one single and do a guest spot on the show.
The resulting Do The Bartman , an infectious slice of new jack swing, was included as the first track on The Simpsons Sing The Blues album, released in December 1990. ....

1972 - Doing a week-long stint as guest host of the Mike Douglas Show, John Lennon performs Memphis and Johnny B. Goode with Chuck Berry, whom Lennon refers to as my hero. A little over a minute into Memphis , while Lennon and Berry are singing about the Mississippi Bridge, Ono decides that what the song needs are some dolphin-like vocalizations, so she proceeds to add those to the mix. For Lennon, this is par for the course, but Berry is visibly shaken and gives the camera a startled, wide-eyed look. He recovers, though, and also performs his famous duck walk. ....

Michael performed backing vocals on Do the Bartman, which was not revealed until a few years later.
Matt Groening, the show’s creator, eventually opened up on this in 1998, adding in 2018 on The Weekly With Charlie Pickering: “We really did have him. He [Michael Jackson] said that he loved Bart and wanted to be on the show.
“He did do the show. He didn’t want credit for it.
“There was some kind of deal with his record company or whatever.
“So when it came time to sing the songs, he had a soundalike singer [Kipp Lennon], and he stood there and watched the guy who was so nervous who had to sound like Michael Jackson.” ....
