Diamondbacks Trade Deadline News + Rumours
Share this story
As the above implies, the trade deadline this year is at 1 pm, Arizona time, on Friday afternoon. Arizona are, for very obvious reasons, expected to be sellers and the process has already started, with the departures of outfielder Tim Locastro to the Yankees (where he promptly suffered a torn right ACL), and catcher Stephen Vogt to the Braves, in exchange for a lottery ticket prospect. It’s quite likely they won’t be the last. While we will have write-ups on any actual trades as appropriate, feel free to use this thread as a dumping ground for any rumors and speculation, as well as suggestions for potential good landing spots for any of Arizona’s remaining players.

Today s pitching matchup will be Trevor Williams vs Caleb Smith. Since being put back into the rotation, Smith has pitched well in all but 2 outings. In 9 starts, he has a deceptive 5.20 ERA and a 1-5 W-L record, has struck out twice as many as he has walked and opponents are batting .218 against him. Take out the start against the Dodgers and I am sure the ERA would drop a lot since he gave up 9 in only 1 inning. Smith has never faced the Cubs as a Dback, but on May 7th, 2019-while pitching for Miami, he struck out 11 in 6.2 giving up 2 runs. Trevor Williams last appearance against the Dbacks was in April 2019, when he was still with the Pirates.

Alex Verdugo broke up a no-hit bid from Domingo German in the eighth inning, opening the door to five runs as the Boston Red Sox rallied past the visiting New York Yankees for a 5-4 win in the finale of a four-game series on Sunday afternoon.
German tossed seven no-hit innings with 10 strikeoutsbefore giving up a leadoff double to Verdugo. Hunter Renfroe and Kike Hernandez each had RBI doubles in the inning, and Christian Vazquez and Kevin Plawecki drove in one run apiece before Xander Bogaerts hit a sacrifice fly to cap the five-run rally.
