was going to be an easy victor on this day. when the general election happened. and in between, some very big changes. in just the last couple of weeks, as you pointed out, scott brown, who is a republican state senator, really caught fire. when we talked to voters, they described things like they rooe related to him, they liked his ideas, they believed that he s not an incumbent, so many voters here viewed martha coakley more of an incumbent even though her job is being massachusetts s attorney general. democrats we talked to have expressed frustrations, too. some of them say they re not happy with how things have been going in washington. and that may get help to vote for brown. others have been very much in support of coakley saying that they believe that she would more match the ideas of, foegs, ted kennedy s legacy. and they ve tried to get out the vote today. they have a much stronger organization to do those things of getting people to the polls because of all of ....

and what scott brown did was ride this wave of independent anger and anxiety that s out there. in fact, in his acceptance speech last night, he never mentioned that he was a republican. instead, what he said, tonight, the independent majority has delivered a great victory. and he sort of, throughout his speech said, we can do better. and he ended up winning by five points. a pretty big win for the republican. i mean, the republicans haven t held this particular seat since 1952 when jfk defended henry cabot lodge. clearly, a big victory for the republicans. as for martha coakley, she conceded last night pretty early, called scott brown, and one of the interesting things, chuck, there wasn t one kennedy on the stage with her last night. a lot of people made note of that. vicki kennedy, as i reported last night, was in d.c. and an aide close to her telling me that it was a very tough night for her. msnbc s chief washington correspondent, norah o donnell in boston for us. ....
