Kimberly Potter is being charged with first degree manslaughter, moved up from second degree manslaughter. Jury selection began last Monday and was finalized on Friday morning.

MINNEAPOLIS Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison will take over the prosecution in the manslaughter case against former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter. Potter, 48, is charged with second-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright in April.
The charge against Potter was filed by Washington County Attorney Pete Orput. Potter s case was initially being handled by the Washington County Attorney s Office after the case was handed over from Hennepin County in order to avoid any conflict of interest.

Activists and Wright s family had requested Ellison s office handle the prosecution.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has taken over the prosecution of Kimberly Potter, the now-former Brooklyn Center police officer who is charged in the death of Daunte Wright.
Ellison accepted Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman s request to prosecute the case after Washington County Attorney Pete Orput charged Potter with second-degree manslaughter, per an agreement between metro county attorneys, and returned the case to Hennepin County. “The Attorney General, the Washington County Attorney, and I are following the protocol the five urban county attorneys signed last summer, which includes asking the Attorney General to take police use of deadly force cases.
