ALBANY Two mass vaccination sites, run jointly by the federal and state governments, will be opened downstate in “socially vulnerable communities to ensure equity in the distribution of coronavirus vaccines, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced in his Wednesday briefing.
The first site will be in Queens, my old stomping grounds, Cuomo said, at York College. The second will be in central Brooklyn at Medgar Evers College. To help reduce the public sector workforce, New York State Senator Pete Harckham and Assemblyman Tom Abinanti announced today that they have introduced legislation that provides temporary retirement incentives for certain public employees, which will result in savings to the State and local governments.
“The coronavirus pandemic has greatly impacted the finances of the State, as well as all of our municipalities, and early retirement incentives offer bottom-line relief to their budgets,” said Harckham. “By streamlining the workforce, we will create real savings across the board, and at the same time open up job opportunities for residents in many instances.”
