Napa County will begin disclosing the names of long-term congregate care facilities experiencing coronavirus outbreaks, County Public Health Officer Karen Relucio confirmed, following lobbying from county elder advocates to do so. Until now, the countyâs policy has been to disclose only the number of active coronavirus outbreaks among its 50 or so long-term care facilities â a group that includes both skilled nursing and assisted living facilities as well as smaller board-and-care homes. Napa County previously has not released the names of facilities experiencing outbreaks nor cited the number of cases in each outbreak, according to county spokesperson Janet Upton, who noted the county leaves it up to individual nursing homes whether to publicly identify themselves as having an outbreak. ....
Brookdale Senior Living, which operates more than 700 retirement communities and assisted living facilities in the U.S., said in a statement that it was taking the COVID-19 situation extremely seriously, adding that safety is the company s top priority. We are diligently monitoring our residents and associates for signs and symptoms, and we continue to work directly with local health officials to help ensure our residents and associates have the appropriate and necessary medical support, the company said. Brookdale Napa is one of about 50 assisted living, senior care and skilled nursing facilities in the county, according to a Napa County spokeswoman. REGISTER STAFF Napa County Public Health, together with St. Helena Hospital Foundation/Adventist Health St. Helena, announced Wednesday that healthcare workers and those 75 and older would have priority in getting their second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Others who have received first doses may have to wait longer, but no one will have to wait beyond the 42-day time period allowed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the two organizations said in a news release. Because of limited vaccine allocations from the state, the county announced Tuesday that it was suspending first-dose clinics until the second shots could be given to all who require them. ....
