Protest in Kolkata over DYFI member s death: Banerjee offers job, financial aid

Kolkata, Feb 16: Students Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged protest in Kolkata on Monday over death of a DYFI member.
One protestor said the deceased was badly hurt from lathi-charge during February 11 protest wherein Left-Congress activists clashed with Kolkata Police.

Assam CM lays foundation of Eastern India s first skill university

Guwahati, Feb 16: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday laid the foundation of the first skill university of eastern India in Darrang district, aimed at imparting training to over 10,000 students in 12 disciplines.
The varsity would be built with a financial outlay of Rs 1,000 crore.

It is expected to be completed by 2026, and will have understandings with countries like Germany, Taiwan, South Korea, Israel, Japan, England, he said.
Sonowal said since the present government came to power in 2016, it has taken several decisions to set up institutions of repute in different districts of the state.

Prime accused in Godhra case arrested after 19 years, had poured petrol on train

New Delhi, Feb 16: Rafiq Hussain Bhatuk, a prime accused in the 2002 Godhra Sabarmati Express carnage case, has been arrested from Godhra. He was involved in pelting stones on the compartment and pouring petrol inside before it was set on fire by other accused, a police official said.

Bhatuk had fled to Delhi after his name cropped up during investigation.
Almost 19 years after a mob torched a coach of Sabarmati Express at Godhra station in Panchmahal district of Gujarat, which led to the death of 59 karsevaks , police have nabbed key accused, Rafiq Hussain Bhatuk, from Godhra town.
