Jamaal Jackson, 25, was shot on June 17, 2020, and later died at the hospital from his injuries. Zaharae Wright and Isaiah Fraser were arrested separately, but indicted together in Jackson’s death. Both Wright and Fraser were found not guilty of second-degree murder on June 10, 2021. ....

Observer-Dispatch A Utica man faces felony weapon charges, city police said. Joshua Butler, 35, was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and vehicle and traffic violations following a traffic stop Jan. 5 on the 1600 block of Brinckerhoff Avenue, police said. During the course of the stop, it was learned Butler had outstanding warrants with the Utica Police Department, officials said. As Butler was being arrested for these warrants, a loaded .40-caliber handgun was found under the driver seat, police said. ....
