Contemporary artist Kate Newby has returned to her family’s property at Te Henga for a peaceful yet productive homecoming.

Kate Newby’s childhood home was a pottery when her parents got the keys to it in the 1970s. At the time, it could only be accessed by gravel roads. They built the house up from a shell, installing upcycled materials, including windows they found on the side of High Street in central Auckland.
Set amid the Te Henga (Bethells Beach) bush, the home’s surroundings seem to foster creativity. Kate grew up across the road from filmmaker Briar March and down the way from her mentor, the artist Allie Eagle. ....

Eight gets green light for feature documentary film about the life of Dame Valerie Adams

Eight’s feature length documentary film about the life of Dame Valerie Adams has received a funding offer from the New Zealand Film Commission and is now in production via The Story Department.
 
Directed by Briar March (above left) and produced by Leanne Pooley, the film follows Dame Valerie’s journey to her fifth and final Olympic Games. The film will honour Dame Valerie (above right) as a woman who has not just survived a challenging past, but taken strength from her often difficult journey and turned it into greatness.
Due for theatrical release in 2022, Eight has received additional brand funding for the project via local and international brand partners. ....
