Columbia Basin Climate Source website updated to inform and educate
New environmental and climate data plus new digital tools are available on the Columbia Basin Climate Source website, www.basinclimatesource.ca. The website is a resource for Basin and Boundary communities to access reliable information on the region’s climate, possible future impacts to the environment and communities, and how people and organizations can proactively respond.

College of the Rockies aims to reduce food waste | Cranbrook, East Kootenay

New composter will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from decaying food, provide compost for campus gardens
College of the Rockies is converting food waste generated by its Cranbrook campus’ cafeteria, Professional Cook program, and Class Act Dining Room into compost thanks, in part, to $30,000 in grant funds from Columbia Basin Trust.
“We are excited to have a new composter in use at our Cranbrook campus and grateful to the Trust for their support of this initiative,” said Allan Knibbs, Director of Facilities at the college. “One of our key values at the college includes caring for the future of each other and of our communities. Helping to reduce our environmental footprint is one way we are able achieve this goal.” ....

Basin environmental projects support innovation, education and conservation
From frogs to grizzly bears and creeks to lakes, habitats and species of all shapes and sizes will benefit from 16 environmental initiatives around the Columbia Basin. The projects are supported by nearly $650,000 from the Columbia Basin Trust’s Environment Grants.
“These grants will support people of the Basin to better understand and celebrate nature, study ecological changes taking place, as well as creating on-the-ground improvements to the environment,” said Brianna Burley, Manager, Environment with the Columbia Basin Trust. “Monitoring and restoration of sensitive ecosystems, land-based education built on partnerships with Indigenous community groups, and species reintroduction are just some of the community-driven projects we are proud to support.” ....
