Illinois House spent $330K for 2 weeks of rent


SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) The Illinois House spent $187,000 to rent out Springfield’s downtown convention center last week due to fears about conducting business at the Capitol during the coronavirus pandemic, according to documents disclosed to The Associated Press.

Lawmakers in the House have now spent a total of about $330,000 in taxpayer money to rent the center for less than two weeks during the pandemic because officials decided the House chamber does not allow sufficient distance between legislators to avoid transmission of the virus. ....

first thing came to my mind. reporter: john crowder definitely had potential. at 17 years old and 6 7 he was thought of by many as one of the best basketball players in the area. he was about to go into his senior year mount carmel high school he was getting looks from top colleges so much potential on the court, off the court, he was a friend to everyone. we got to do that with love, whether it is tough and it has got to be with that great big smile and that laugh that he had. that is what we have to carry on. and it is not goodbye. it never is. it s see you later. reporter: if anything can come out of his death it is all about how he lived. that is what should matter. he was a big person with a big smile who loved life and had a lot of friends whose lives he touched but to those friends a warning, in the streets won t help you succeed. first time he said you are going to be shot.
