LETTERS | Family Matters 13 May 2021 A reader reminds us that it is the duty of parents, families and communities to teach children the right way to love one another and live peacefully.  Image: 123RF/ ARTIT OUBKAEW   I fully agree with the editorial High Time to Change the Way Boys are Brought Up in SA (DD May 12). There is not much a government can do to control the behaviour of boys and men in their violent minds, killing anyone for that matter.  The mind boggles to think that anyone can ever have such gruesome thoughts, let alone commit these heinous crimes. Life sentences are handed down in our courts every day for murder and rape perpetrators, yet it does not seem to deter others.

Michigan author explores family tragedy in Murder of an Elvis Girl

View Comments Buddy Moorehouse was a junior at the University of Michigan in 1981 when his mom’s cousin, a former actress, was shot and killed in Los Angeles. Back then, he was working on the sports staff of the Michigan Daily student newspaper alongside colleagues like future Detroit sports columnists Bob Wojnowski and the late Drew Sharp. Crime wasn t his beat. When he used a phone at the Daily office to call the Los Angeles Times, he was trying to get more information about Jenny Maxwell’s violent death. “My mom called me in tears when she found out that Jenny had been murdered. We didn’t know a thing about it,” says the University of Michigan class of 1982 alum, who grew up in Ypsilanti and now lives in Livingston County.
