The ICC in The Hague on Thursday sentenced Dominic Ongwen, a former Lord s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel commander, to 25 years in prison for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in northern Uganda. Judges handed down the sentence to Ongwen following a trial in February, in which the ex-child soldier was found guilty of 61 war crimes and crimes against humanity committed between July 1, 2002 and Dec. 31, 2005. ....

KAMPALA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) Victims of a two-decade long rebellion in northern Uganda said that justice has been done after a former Lord s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel commander was convicted on Thursday of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC). Judges at the Hague-based ICC on Thursday found Dominic Ongwen guilty of 61 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity in northern Uganda in a 20-year war raging until 2006. Ongwen, a former child soldier who rose through the rank and file of the LRA, was among the five top commanders of the outfit who were indicted by the ICC. The other three are said to have died apart from rebel leader Joseph Kony who is still in hiding. ....

The International Criminal Court in The Hague has found LRA child soldier-turned commander Dominic Ongwen guilty on 61 charges, ranging from murder and rape to kidnapping and torture.
Among the charges Ongwen was convicted of Wednesday is the crime of conscripting children under the age of 15 into the LRA’s Sinia brigade and using them to participate in hostilities.
Oyet Vincent was 12 years old, living in the Lukodi displaced person’s camp in northern Uganda, when Lord’s Resistance Army rebels launched a war against Uganda’s president, Yoweri Museveni, in 1987. ....
