Central Ohio s Growing to Green: Community gardens grow relationships through shared interests
Community gardening cultivates more than just crops in central Ohio.
Bill Dawson, Growing to Green program manager at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 1777 E. Broad St. in Columbus, said community gardens are the melting pots of culture.
“Food is culture and culture is food,” he said. “We learn about each other at the garden gate. Leaning over the garden fence, there are people who show us different techniques or how to prepare food. People are doing good things in their neighborhood that turns them around. It gives seniors an opportunity to explain how to grow or even how to can.”
Closing Gahanna s pools during pandemic opened door for needed maintenance

For all the negative effects COVID-19 had on last year s swimming season, it at least provided an opportunity in Gahanna.
It allowed time for maintenance.
While Gahanna parks and recreation facilities were closed as a result of the pandemic last year, a variety of needed facility maintenance tasks were completed at the Gahanna Swimming Pool, 148 Parkland Drive, and Hunters Ridge Pool, 341 Harrow Blvd.
Brian Gill-Huston, recreation superintendent, said dedicated dollars from Issue 12 that was approved in May 2019 provided most of the funding for the maintenance projects. The issue changed the city’s income-tax rate from 1.5% to 2.5%.
