The Warrens travelled to Auckland to collect the vehicle, but upon their arrival, they discovered the obscenity scratched into the paintwork. Warren asked Roselea Holdings Ltd for a full refund as the car was not in the condition he was told it was in. However, the company refused to pay the full amount, saying it was holding $2000 as compensation for lost profit, inconvenience and reselling the vehicle. Warren went to the Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal, which has ordered the company to refund the $2000. The tribunal heard Warren saw the car advertised on Trade Me. Before purchasing it, he spoke with Brendan Mulligan from Roslea Holdings.
