More exposure to political TV ads heightens anxiety

 E-Mail
ITHACA, N.Y. - We ve all seen them: political ads on television that promise doom gloom if Candidate X is elected, and how all your problems will be solved if you choose Candidate Y. And Candidate Y, of course, approves this message.
Beyond attempting to move a large swath of the population to vote one way or another, the seemingly constant bombardment of negativity in the name of our democratic process is anxiety-inducing, researchers have found.
Many of my friends and family members wind up quite stressed out, for lack of a better word, during each election season, said Jeff Niederdeppe, professor in the Department of Communication in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and I ve seen this pattern repeat itself across the last several election cycles. ....

Study: More exposure to political TV ads heightens anxiety

Process for replacing Sen. John Blake unfolding

Local Democratic and Republican party leaders have begun preparing for the special election to replace state Sen. John Blake.
Select Republicans and Democrats will choose their party nominees for the special election, but candidates registered as independents or in other parties can get on the ballot, too, through a different process.
A lot of details remain unknown, including the election’s date and exactly when the main political parties will nominate candidates, but party officials provided some details of the processes for replacing Blake, whose resignation takes effect March 8. Blake announced last week he will resign for a job as U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright’s district director. ....

Media tries to "both sides" an insurrection: No, anger over the Capitol riot isn't "partisan rancor"

comments
The endless mainstream media urge to cast any and every partisan conflict in both sides do it terms no matter how one-sided any conflict actually is  hit a shocking new low on Friday morning when the Washington Post ran this front-page headline: Congress hits new levels of partisan rancor.
The Post s appalling headline really underscores the mainstream media s slavish dedication to false equivalence. It minimizes the growing Republican support for the violent insurrection of January 6 and the continued Democratic anger over those events as merely a partisan spat. Readers who clicked the story saw more of the casual equation between the intended victims of the mob Donald Trump sent to the Capitol and Trump s supporters with the internal headline: Hostility between congressional Republicans and Democrats reaches new lows amid growing fears of violence. The headline manages to insinuate that both parties are rolling out the welcome mat for viol ....

A technical error left the Green Party’s presidential candidate off the ballot in Pennsylvania, handing former Vice President Joe Biden yet another competitive edge against President Donald Trump, Senate Republicans said on Monday.
It’s tactic long used by the Democratic Party, the GOP legislators said, to keep liberal voters aligned behind their own candidate. In 2016, when Trump beat Hillary Clinton by just 44,000 votes, the Green Party candidate earned more than 49,000.
This year, Green Party candidates on down ballot races for Attorney General, Auditor General and Treasurer garnered vote totals of 68,460; 76,072 and 79,389, respectively. ....
