No arrest warrant yet for Ongpin; case raffled off

Julian Roberto Ongpin (File photo) MANILA - The drug possession case against Julian Roberto Ongpin has been raffled to a La Union court while an arrest warrant has yet to be issued. The case against the 29-year-old art gallery owner and billionaire's son was raffled off Thursday to the San Fernando City, La Union Regional Trial Court Branch 27, under Judge Romeo Agacita, according to Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary and spokesperson Emmeline Aglipay-Villar, in a text message to reporters. "He is the same judge who issued the provisional hold departure order," she added. "As of this morning, a warrant of arrest has yet to be issued. We will secure a copy as soon as it is already available." In February, Agacita also sentenced a former vice mayor's aide, Leonardo Banaag Jr., to life imprisonment for the June 2010 murder of radio broadcaster Jovelito Agustin in Laoag City. No bail for Ongpin in illegal drug case

Julian Roberto Ongpin (File photo) MANILA - No bail will be recommended for the possession of dangerous drugs case against Julian Roberto Ongpin, the 29-year-old son of former Trade minister and billionaire Roberto V. Ongpin. Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary and spokesperson Emmeline Aglipay-Villar told the media via text message that the criminal information against Ongpin will be filed at the Regional Trial Court of San Fernando City, La Union following the resolution of the case on Monday. "The same information also states that the offense is non-bailable," Villar said. A precautionary hold departure order was issued on October 8 by the La Union court, directing the Bureau of Immigration to bar Ongpin from leaving the Philippines. DOJ wraps up preliminary probe on Ongpin drug case

Julian Ongpin (File photo) MANILA - Prosecutors have completed the preliminary investigation into the illegal drug charge against Julian Ongpin and are expected to release the findings soon. In a text message to the media on Friday, Prosecutor Honey Delgado of the Office of the Prosecutor General said Ongpin, 29, and representatives of the Philippine National Police appeared during the continuation of the preliminary investigation. "The respondent (Ongpin) submitted his supplemental counter-affidavit copy furnished the complainant. Upon joint motion of the parties and considering that no new matters (or) issues were raised by both parties, the case was submitted for resolution," Delgado said. The son of billionaire Roberto Ongpin was caught with 12.6 grams of cocaine inside a hostel room in San Juan, La Union, on September 18.
