Waves have begun overtopping the sea walls and encroaching on land south of the city. Ōwhiro Bay resident Eugene Doyle said Wellington City Council has put a new cordon up at the intersection of Ōwhiro Bay Parade and Happy Valley Road. He said the south side of the bay, leading to Red Rocks, is closed to traffic other than residents vehicles.
