Who wants a rainbow bagel?
Bagels have been around for centuries but in 1610, they were first mentioned in the written records of Krakow, Poland. Bagels were later brought to New York City by Polish immigrants in the late 19th century but didn’t become popular in the Big Apple until the 1970s. Of course, bagels can be now be found in many shops in many different types of flavors.
I used to eat bagels a lot for breakfast when I was in high school. My Mom would go to the grocery store right when it opened, grab a huge bag of them in the discount bin and bring it home in time for breakfast. The chocolate chip bagels were always my favorite but nowadays they are a bit hard to find anywhere. I never added any spreads to the chocolate chip bagels because it took away a bit of that chocolatey goodness. If i ....

Frosted Flakes: Dyatlov Pass, 66 Pounds of Oranges and 'Traveling Under the Social Influence'

That’s a lot of oranges
One of the strangest mysteries that has fascinated me the most was the Dyatlov Pass incident. A group of hikers never returned after leaving on a trip into the Ural Mountains. The causes of death ranged from internal bleeding, head trauma and hypothermia.
A National Geographic article released last week (I posted the article below) declared that the cause of the death was releated to a small avalanche. It seems convincing enough after reading the article and watching some other recent videos about the incident (see below) but I’m curious to hear everyone else’s thoughts about the recent findings. ....

Sandwiches have been around for a while.in fact since the 1st Century BC. It was in historical records that Hillel the Elder gathered chopped nuts, apples, spices and better herbs and placed them between two pieces of matzoh (unleavened bread). I have had this during Passover and I will admit it’s not as bad as it seems.
The word ‘sandwich’ first appeared in 1762 written in the journal of English author Edward Gibbons in which he was likely writing about the habits of John Matagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. Matagu was known for being quite the gambler who often did so for extended periods of time without leaving the table. In order to counter this issue, he would order meat between two pieces of bread to satisfy his hunger. This meal gained popularity in London and quickly became known as a sandwich. ....

Well I’m glad the presidential transition went smoothly yesterday so I can’t focus on the big news in the outdoor/mountaineering world. Last Saturday at around 5:00 pm local time, Nimsdai Purja and a team of nine other Nepali Sherpas became the first group to complete a Winter Ascent of K2. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving group of peoples.the mountains shepherds themselves.
This feat had been attempted for years without any success. K2 is the second-highest mountain in the world at 8611 meters (28251 feet) but it is a more difficult climb than Mount Everest due to its unpredictable weather and dangerous conditions. Thousands of climbers reach the peak of Mount Everest each year but less than 400 people have reached the top of K2 in recorded history.none of them during the winter until last weekend. I dropped a co ....

Greetings from Columbus, Ohio where I will be ringing in the New Year with my brother and parents while watching movies, snacking on sweets and playing board games. Has anyone else played Codenames?
Last week’s trip to Columbus was quite the adventure so I figured I would share it with you here. My parents and I were supposed to leave Canada on a very early Tuesday morning flight to Columbus via Phoenix. However, Monday afternoon it began to snow. We knew a snowstorm was coming so my Mom thought it would be better to drive up to Calgary on Monday evening and spend a night at an airport hotel before the flight. We left the house at 6:00 pm and the snow was continuing to come down more and more as the drive continued and the wind continued to swirl and swirl. ....
