Center hosts ‘Noble Purpose’ sessions
The Carlsbad Senior Center hosts a free series of classes, based on the book “Noble Purpose: Igniting Extraordinary Passion for Life and Work” by Barry Heermann, from 7 to 8 p.m. March 9 Tuesday. The interactive class focuses on “discovering your Essential Self” and meaningful endeavors. The class is conducted via conference calls beginning with an introduction describing the course and answering questions on Tuesday and continuing weekly from 7 to 8 p.m. starting March 23. Tip Top Run turns virtual this year

Letty Pogrebin, former editor of Ms. Magazine, speaks in virtual talk


Despite the tension and fears in the world, Letty Cottin Pogrebin is feeling euphoric at the moment. She recently got her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and, more importantly, she’s about to witness Kamala Harris become the first woman inaugurated as vice president of the United States.
“I lived through Shirley Chisholm’s campaign and I was very close to (Geraldine) Ferraro, and I can just see them up on a cloud looking down and applauding like crazy,” said the longtime women’s rights activist, author and founding editor of Ms. Magazine.
“We shouldn’t have had to wait so long, but nonetheless we got here,” Pogrebin said in a telephone interview ahead of an online conversation at 7 p.m. Thursday night for the Brandeis National Committee’s Sarasota chapter.
