These grants were made possible through CommuniCare, a year-long leadership program that gives Oregon high school students an opportunity to learn about issues affecting their communities to facilitate a deeper commitment to social activism. 12 Oregon nonprofits that help communities impacted by inequity receive $5M in grants Katherine Kisiel, KATU Staff Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum announced $5 million in grants for 12 state nonprofits that help communities impacted by inequity, like LGBTQ+, LatinX and BIPOC domestic violence survivors.  Our AG is hearing us and I think that’s a step starting the process, being heard, said Jackie Vargas with CASA Esperanza, the LatinX domestic violence shelter, which got a three-year grant worth $300,000. This funding will definitely be a way to move us toward that direction that we need to go to, said Vargas. Vargas said it s always tough to get funding, especially during COVID. She said domestic violence numbers are going up in the LatinX community.
