The charges were laid through more than 1,500 holiday-season checks under the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere campaign. Police organized the checkpoints between Nov. 26 and Jan. 3.
They charged 92 people with impaired driving or a related offence. A further 31 received suspensions of their driving licences after roadside testing showed their blood-alcohol levels to be in the warning range.
“These individuals are putting not only their own lives at risk, but also those of passengers, other motorists and pedestrians,” said Insp. Dave Tovell, the traffic and marine manager for the east region headquarters.
