Reporter the folks who live in the oakland neighborhood are a bit onedge tonight after learning a girl who works at the nearby oakland zoo had a dangerous Close Encounter with a bat infected with the deadly rabies virus. It was on the ledge, trying to crawl up the glass. Oakland zoo veterinarian shows us where a 16yearold zoo volunteer found a small bat on saturday, like this one, that appeared to be in distress outside the otter exhibit. Probably, she wanted to help the animal. It turns out, the bat had rabies. Its teeth were so small, its not clear if it actually bit the girl. But theyre not taking any chances. Called police when she saw someone watching her. Then a again this past monday night at a home on the 100 block, same situation, woman in the shower, peeping tom just outside the window. Both incidents involved bathroom windows so the individuals inside were showering or in the bathroom area. The best thing we are saying to the resident help us help you. Reporter authorities dont know why this man drifted off the row but they think he may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The van is still here. It slammed into a utility pole first that is lying on the side of the roadway. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to pry the man out. He was trapped between the drivers seat. This happened at 1 00. The chp says the victim is a 30 35 man from San Pablo Bay with a washingtons drivers license. He was taken to hairing general hospital. The man is driving a work van but authorities dont know where he was headed. The doors to the vehicle are so jammed so these drews are able to search inside for any cruels. Mg a is out right now.
