The Marion County Board of Commissioners met for the regular meeting and as usual, the main topic was roads in Marion County. County Engineer Brice Goebel opened up the roads portion of the meeting answering public questions about a road that was part of a bus route. Goebel wasn’t sure what all had been done on the road, but he said he would look into it. The commissioners and Goebel discussed the need for getting more complete sections of roads done rather than “just patches here and there”. Goebel mentioned a road paver tracker available through the Star Program that tracks when roads are bladed and other improvements so that records can be kept. ....
Commission gets update on parks developments by Laura Fowler Paulus The Marion County Commissioners met on Monday for their usual afternoon meetings. In addition to their usual business, the commissioners heard from Isaac Hett, superintendent for the Marion County Park and Lake, regarding the update for the new shop at the lake. Hett let the commissioners know that the electricians have been working on the office and should finish up next week. Hett had previously informed the commissioners that he had spoken with local stores and suppliers about food items and various tackle supplies. He spoke with Last Chance Bait who has recommended connecting with a shop in McPherson where they get their supplies. The commissioners approved the shop but also expressed the desire to shop local as much as possible. Propane and battery suppliers were also discussed. ....
Marion Food Bank explains plan to expand to commission The Marion County Board of Commissioners heard an update on the Marion Food Bank from Gene Winkler and Gerry Henderson. Winkler thanked the board for the utility assistance they give the food bank. The county pays for the utilities for the food bank so that they do not have to worry about that cost. “Throughout the year of 2020, we served 2541 families for a total 6887 individual people,” said Winkler. Winkler explained that all the food they get in has to be weighed. While much of the food is donated there are some costs. Food that comes in from the Wichita food bank costs a small amount per pound. For 2020, they received 87,627 pounds from the Wichita Food Bank although three months of that was covered by a grant and did not cost them anything. ....
County commission approves bait shop The Marion County Board of Commissioners met on Monday where they heard from Isaac Hett, Park and Lake Superintendent, who brought a budget proposal for the bait shop that was proposed last week. “All of the outlets and the wiring in the wall are fine. The problems are in the ceiling and we may need new wiring for the lights in the office. It sounds like there was a bunch of extra wiring in the ceiling,” said Hett. Hett said he believed they would need about $1,000 for groceries. After checking with local bait shops, Hett found that most people seem to get their bait supplies from a bait shop called Bill’s Outdoor Sports in McPherson. Hett called the shop and discovered that they can deliver orders every Tuesday when they are already in the area. ....
