[email protected] Garrett Neese/Daily Mining Gazette Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools Superintendent Brad Codere presents a Copper Country Association of School Board award to senior Siona Beadouin on Monday. ake Linden-Hubbell Schools Board presented three people with Copper Country Association of School Board awards at its meeting Monday night. Twelfth-grader Siona Beaudoin received the Student Leadership Award. Beaudoin has been part of numerous extracurricular activities, including eCYBERMISSION, where she helped win a national title and the Life Sciences Poster Competition at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, where she finished third. “Siona is a quiet leader who takes her academics very seriously, and is primed for much success beyond high school,” Superintendent Brad Codere said. ....
[email protected] LAKE LINDEN The number of virtual students at Lake Linden-Hubbell Elementary School has continued to decrease, Elementary Coordinator Jack Johnson said at the monthly Board meeting Monday. The number was at 16 as of last Monday, Johnson said; another one or two may be opting to come back. “I would guess in the next couple of weeks that drops down to the low teens,” he said. About 70% of this year’s fourth- and fifth-grade class made the honor roll, Johnson said. There are also 13 boys and 14 girls participating in elementary basketball. Students had a number of Reading Month activities; every elementary student received a book through the elementary-school Parent-Teacher Organization and Lake Linden Lions Club. ....

French and nine other teachers from across the state are now finalists for the 2021-2022 Michigan Teacher of the Year. The Michigan Department of Education is singling out these teachers for the many roles they play in their schools. The 2021-2022 honorees were also chosen for their dedication to the teaching profession and by their commitment to their students and track record of service. ....
April 8, 2021 Lake Linden-Hubbell school district teacher Heather French is a finalist for Michigan teacher of the year. Yet the gross pay of $48,809 French received in 2019-20 was below the district’s average teacher salary of $51,423. The U.P. teacher is a good example of how the unionization of Michigan’s public school districts hurts the state’s exceptional teachers. Many proponents of sending more tax dollars into public schools have pointed to compensation as a reason so many teachers leave the field. Like almost all Michigan public school districts, Lake Linden-Hubbell does not take a statutory merit pay requirement seriously, and it appears to violate state law over its merit-pay policies. ....
