Uniformed private security officers, part of Fredericton's new community safety services unit, are now patrolling trails and downtown areas. Brad Cameron, the city's assistant director of public safety, organized the pilot project involving security guards employed by GardaWorld.
Fredericton councillors will consider whether to spend $1.3 million as part of next year's budget on hiring four new police officers, as well as launching a pilot project to have contracted security guards patrol the city's multi-use trails and commercial districts.
