Jail for two men who followed pensioner (87) and stole €2,000 she had just withdrawn


Two men who followed an 87-year-old woman who had just withdrawn €2,000 from a bank and distracted her while they stole it from her handbag have been jailed.
Robert Malole (43) and Gheorghe Cocos (44) were caught on CCTV observing the woman at the bank and following her to a shop, pharmacy and onto her car.
Cocos approached and asked her to point out a location on a map which obstructed her view of her handbag while the money was stolen.
The court heard gardaí traced the pair through CCTV and by tracing their rental car which they had obtained using their real passports. The men have repaid the money taken from the victim in full. ....

Man accused of 'spitting virus' at paramedic


A Swords paramedic s face had his case adjourned for directions from the DPP.
Anton Lilian Doncz (30) was being brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth at the time of the alleged offence in the early hours of Sunday, January 10.
The accused, who has an address at Brackenstown Road in Swords was arrested and brought before Drogheda District Court charged with assault and two breaches of the Public Order Act.
Outlining the alleged facts of the case for Judge Miriam Walsh, Sergeant John O Hehir said: It is a very serious allegation. The accused is alleged to have spat at a paramedic and told him he had COVID-19. ....

Dublin plumber threatened to urinate in cell after being thrown out of pub


A plumber who was thrown out of a bar after a funeral drunkenly told gardaí they had no right to tell him to go home, a court heard.
Aidan Whelan (25) thought he was sticking up for himself when he told officers he would be returning to the pub.
Judge Dermot Dempsey ordered Whelan to donate €300 to charity and pay €150 compensation to gardaí and struck out the charges, leaving him without a conviction.
The defendant, of Castlegrange Avenue, Swords, admitted public drunkenness, threatening and abusive behaviour and failing to follow garda directions last January 31.
Garda Philip Walsh told Swords District Court that officers went to the scene following reports that a man had been thrown out of a pub on Brackenstown Road, Swords. ....
