The Americas Olympic qualification event has been cancelled
The Americas Olympic qualification was due to start in Argentina on May 10. But it has now been cancelled and will not be rescheduled
THE Americas Olympic qualification event, that was due to take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina from May 10-16 has been cancelled.
This is due to tighter travel restrictions and lockdowns that have been implemented across the region affecting the ability of teams to get to the event.
In a statement the Boxing Task Face, that administers the event, said: “Given the nature of the event as an Olympic qualifier which will award a large number of direct quota places (49) for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, ensuring fair access and a safe environment for all athletes and officials is of the greatest importance. This is in line with the key principles followed by the BTF [Boxing Task Force], which remains committed to delivering a fair and equitable Olympic qualification process, p ....

India s hopes of adding more boxers to their Olympic contingent came to an end on Monday after the International Olympic Committee s (IOC) decision to scrap the final boxing qualifier for Tokyo 2020 - a global event which was due to take place in Paris in June. The decision was announced by the IOC s Boxing Task Force (BTF).
The decision would be particularly felt in the men s and women s 57kg divisions which are among India s strongest weight categories. India has qualified a boxer in the 57 kg (and previously the 56kg) divisions in three consecutive Olympics prior to Tokyo.
