Mantua Mayor Michael Johnson resigned his position on Monday, according to a statement released on the townâs Facebook page.
âI have enjoyed serving my fellow citizens and the friendships I have made,â Johnson wrote in the statement. âMy hope is that the divisiveness in the town will now stop and healing will begin, and Mantua will once again become the great town we moved into many years ago.â
As Johnsonâs âlast privilege,â he swore in new Chief of Police Craig Hamer.
âHopefully, you will all get to know him and find him to be a fair and friendly officer,â Johnson wrote.

I am certain our attorney will give you the same reply. The only statement available at this time is that the Town of Mantua has terminated the employment of Michael Castro.â
