Date Time Operation Bathurst 500 launched in leadup to championship event at Bathurst Police have launched a high-visibility operation in the state’s Central Tablelands as race enthusiasts prepare for the 2021 Supercars Championship season launch. Round one of the Repco Supercars Championship will commence at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, today (Friday 26 February 2021). The event consists of three days of Supercars and Support category racing, followed by two private ride days. Western Region Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna, was joined by Supercars Australia Chief Operating Officer Shane Howard and Bathurst Mayor, Councillor Bobby Bourke, to officially launch Operation Bathurst 500. Traditionally, events of its kind at Bathurst have drawn in large crowds of competitors, officials and spectators. Date Time Texting truck driver caught over limit A truck driver will have to face the next year without a driver’s licence after being caught allegedly using his mobile phone and over the legal alcohol limit in Malvern East this morning. State Highway Patrol officers were patrolling the Monash Freeway when they observed the driver of a medium-rigid truck allegedly using his mobile phone about 6.30am. The vehicle was intercepted on the Bourke Road exit ramp where the 48-year-old driver returned an alleged evidentiary breath test of .158. The Endeavour Hills man had his licence immediately suspended for 12 months and is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and using a mobile phone while driving. ....
Date Time Crown reserves secure over $2 million funding More than $2 million in funding has been awarded to a range of local improvement projects for Crown land reserves and facilities across the Barwon region. Upper House MP Sam Farraway said the funding is being provided by the NSW Government under its Crown Reserves Improvement Fund. “It’s fantastic to see these funds have been secured for a variety of projects this year under the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund program to maintain and upgrade local reserves as well as community facilities located on them,” Mr Farraway said. “This funding will see infrastructure upgrades to local community halls, parks, showgrounds, PCYC and sporting clubs, caravan parks, museums, racecourses and more as well as maintenance of Crown reserves through noxious weed and pest control.” ....
Date Time Preparations for Junior State Cup Touch titles Wagga Wagga is just one week away from hosting the third annual NSW Touch Association’s Junior State Cup Southern Conference carnival. Players and spectators from across southern parts of the State will be back at the Jubilee Park precinct from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 February for the carnival which is this year taking a different format due to COVID-19 considerations. NSWTA and Wagga Wagga City Council have planned to ensure a COVID-safe environment is provided at the carnival. Council’s Strategic Recreation Officer Peter Cook said there will be changed traffic conditions, including some road and lane closures, around Jubilee Park during the weekend. ....
Date Time Vets urge producers to vaccinate following anthrax detection 10 February NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Local Land Services (LLS) have urged producers to vaccinate their livestock following confirmation of the first case of anthrax to occur this year. In late January 2021, anthrax was detected in an unvaccinated mob of ewes and lambs on a Central West NSW property with a previous history of anthrax. The affected animals were ewes which had not been vaccinated for anthrax and biosecurity measures at the affected property, including stock movement restrictions and the vaccination of remaining livestock were immediately imposed. NSW DPI senior veterinary officer, Graham Bailey said while there are no general public health risks or trade implications from the detection, it served as a timely reminder. ....
