After allegations of domestic violence, acting Boston Mayor Kim Janey fired Boston Police Commissioner Dennis White. He is now speaking out.
According to CBS Boston, after announcing his firing on June 7, Janey, the first Black mayor of Boston, stated during a news conference, “Dennis White has repeatedly asserted that the domestic violence allegations against him are false, but he stated in his hearing and during the investigation that he has hit and pushed members of his household. The allegations and evidence of this behavior raised serious questions about his fitness to lead the Boston Police Department.”

For the second time in a week, a judge has ruled in favor of the city of Boston and acting Mayor Kim Janey in the case against embattled Boston Police Commissioner Dennis White. On Thursday, a Massachusetts Appeals Court Associate judge affirmed a ruling that cleared a path for White’s dismissal, giving Janey an extra layer of legal clearance to hold a hearing and dismiss White, who is accused of committing acts of domestic violence more than 20 years ago.
Congressman Seth Moulton said U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, the former mayor of Boston, should resign from his post if it turns out he knew about domestic violence allegations facing Boston Police Commissioner Dennis White.
Walsh promoted White to his position in February, only to then place him on leave just days later after decades-old domestic violence accusations against White surfaced.
Walsh repeated this week that he did not know about the allegations before the promotion, but former Boston Police Commissioner William Gross wrote in a court affidavit that Walsh knew.
White denies the claims and is fighting an effort in court to have him fired. White s attorneys argued before a judge Thursday that Acting Mayor Kim Janey, who is running to make her role permanent, lacks the authority to dismiss him and did not give him an adequate opportunity to defend himself against the allegations.
