Des Moines library announces 2021 reading challenge Des Moines Public Library, Special to the Register Happy New Year: Des Moines first baby of 2021 is Genesis Urbina-Lopez Replay Video UP NEXT Escape into books during the 2021 Reading Challenge! The Des Moines Public Library is once again challenging readers to read 12 books in 12 months one in each of 12 categories. At the end of each month and quarter, we’ll have a random drawing for prizes among anyone who has stayed on track (finished one book by the end of January, two books by the end of February, three books by the end of March, etc.) At the end of the year, anyone who completed each category will be eligible for a grand prize. ....
•September: A Staff Pick •November: An Author Born Outside the United States •December: A Book About the Future •Bonus: A Book Recommended by a Reading Together Participant Each month, the library will have a recommended Community Read title for adults, teens, and families to read and discuss together. For the month that these books are Community Reads, they will be available as eBooks with no wait list in Overdrive, and library-wide book discussions will be held at the end of the month. Patrons can find the list of Community Reads at bpl.org/yearlong, and will be able to register for the monthly book discussions at bpl.org/events. ....
